Dr. Katherine Jackson is a Professor in the Counseling and Art Therapy Graduate Program at Ursuline College. She has been a full-time faculty since 2011 but has worked at Ursuline College as an adjunct since 1993. She teaches many courses, most notably, Family Therapy, Creativity and Visual Thinking, and Cultural and Social Diversity. Dr. Jackson created the service-learning program for graduate Counseling and Art Therapy students as well as all Ursuline College students, and has taken not only students but alumni, and community members to El Salvador, Ecuador, Zimbabwe, Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation in South Dakota, Nepal, Hungary, Peru, and South Africa.
Dr. Jackson earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Sofia University in Palo Alto, California; her Masters in Expressive Therapy from University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky; and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Jackson is a licensed and board-certified art therapist. She is also a registered yoga teacher and health coach.
Dr. Jackson is a state, national and international presenter. Her research and presentation focus currently is on social and cultural diversity, helping and acknowledging individuals who are underrepresented in the world today and holistic health practices. She is the recipient of various awards, most notably the Ursuline College Teaching Excellence Award (2016) and the Ohio Magazine Educator of the year honoree (2017) and the Honorary Life Member (HLM) award from the Buckeye Art Therapy Association (2023). She is also the current president of the Buckeye Art Therapy Association. Dr. Jackson has written several book chapters on art therapy, and is currently writing a textbook entitled, “Engaging Service Learning through Expressive Arts Therapy” to be published in 2026.
