While Ursuline College is known for its nationally renowned nursing programs and other innovative health care initiatives, you’ll find its creative arts offerings are also top notch during a whirlwind weekend of special year-end events.
The festivities start on Friday, April 25that 5 p.m. with the opening reception for the Senior Art Exhibition in the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery. The show, which runs through May 15, features the works of four graduating seniors: Jessyka Camandillo, Kaylynn “Ponchi” Berrios, Nicholas Pyles, and Alivia Rovder. “This exhibition is the culmination of their journeys as up-and-coming artists,” states Wasmer Gallery Director Anna Arnold. “It’s exciting to witness their personal growth as soon-to-be Ursuline graduates.”
On Saturday, the College’s Fashion Program presents “Transformations 2025,” a new pathway and the shape of things to come. This full runway show is described as “a world where fashion meets the future and student visions become a reality.” Doors open to the Sr. Diana Stano Athletic Center at 2 p.m. The show begins at 3:15 p.m.
“Fashion students explore their creative identities while mastering essential concepts of the fashion industry.,” notes Fashion Program Director Tiffany Wells. “They transform two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional garments. Each spring, the fashion merchandising and design students collaborate to present a fashion show featuring student work.”
That evening, the College’s Music Program, led by Leo Coach, will host its annual spring recital in the Little Theatre at 5 p.m. The hour-long concert will feature the piano and voice students of Gabriela Martinez performing classical and popular music, as well as pieces from musicals.
“With Ursuline’s small size, we ‘re able to provide a lot of personal attention and mentoring to our students, whether they are interested in careers in the arts, or are just looking for a new creative outlet,” explains Creative Arts Chair Clark DeCapite. “It’s exciting that all that creative energy is on display this weekend!”
